Overview

Introduction

As more companies adopt management philosophies of continuous productivity and quality improvement to survive in an increasingly competitive world, the need for industrial engineers is growing – they are the only engineering professionals trained as productivity and quality improvement specialists. Industrial engineers figure out how to improve quality and productivity, aiming to eliminate waste of time, money, materials, energy and etc. That is why more and more companies are hiring industrial engineers, very often promoting them to management positions.

The Diploma in Industrial Engineering syllabus incorporates current industry-wide Lean Six Sigma thinking and practice. Lean Six Sigma is a highly disciplined process that helps practitioners focus on developing, and delivering, near-perfect products and services. It is a proven management tool that enables companies to increase profitability by eliminating wastes and reducing variations.

At the end of this programme, students will be able to:

  • Identify problems affecting productivity in an organisation
  • Select suitable areas for efficiency improvement
  • Analyse the problems using tools of industrial engineering
  • Improve, design and recommend appropriate changes in the systems, methods and procedures so as to help the organisation to reduce costs, improve quality and fulfil delivery commitment
