Are you feeling lost and overwhelmed about where to study, and how to choose a tertiary course?
Believe us when we say that you’re not alone. We’ve heard our students share their experiences with us, and we understand how tough your search can be. This is why we’ve identified five steps you can carry out to guide you along!
1) Choose an institution with a wide variety of course options
You may be wondering: why pick a higher education institution with a diverse range of courses, both across subjects and levels of study?
We have the answer! Firstly, our sizeable selection of courses means that you’ll have more academic fields and disciplines to choose from. More progression pathways are also available to you. For instance, you could enrol in the Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Digital Marketing after graduating from the Diploma in Business Administration (Digital Marketing). Thereafter, you could further your studies with the Master of Analytics or Master of Business Administration!
Secondly, you’ll have increased chances to interact with peers majoring in other disciplines—exposing yourself to different frames of thought and broadening your perspectives in the process. You’ll be able to begin building up a professional network too; a well-established one will grow your resources and open the door for potential business opportunities in the future. Combine this with PSB Academy’s diverse student population, and you’re off to a great start.
2) Research about the courses and university partners
It’s important to study a course you’re interested in, so be sure to peruse everything the higher education institution has to offer. Pay close attention to details like a course’s core modules and electives, its mode(s) of delivery and key modes of assessment. Do they align with your learning style and goals?
If you’re exploring degree-level courses and above, knowledge about the university awarding the qualification(s) may help you make a better-informed decision. You can read up on PSB Academy’s overseas university partners by mousing over the ‘Schools & Partners’ tab on our website, and checking out the university’s website too.
If you need more information about our courses or nine overseas university partners such as those from ANZ, don’t hesitate to get the ball rolling by sending in an enquiry. Our course consultants are more than happy to answer your questions, no matter how big or small.
3) Find out if the institution’s environment and culture will suit you
Does the higher education institution you’re considering have you feeling motivated and engaged?
At PSB Academy, we want to inspire communication and collaboration between our students even after class ends. Both our STEM Campus and our City Campus have been thoughtfully designed with plenty of common spaces and breakout areas. This encourages socialising and group work, and many PSB Academy students love hanging out at the town hall just to chat and relax*. You can explore our campuses by viewing our virtual tour.
We also keep things lively through our 15 student clubs. Our Dance Club, for example, welcomes dance enthusiasts and newcomers, while the Myanmar Student Club welcomes anyone interested in the culture and traditions of Myanmar. Our student clubs regularly organise catch-up sessions with its members so they can bond and make new friends, and many of them feature in our 2020 student magazine!
*Classes at PSB Academy are currently conducted via a blended-learning approach. We seek your cooperation in adhering to safe distancing measures when on campus. For the latest updates, please visit our Covid-19 Advisory page.
4) Determine if the institution will help you achieve your future goals
Will the higher education institution you have in mind prepare you for life after graduation?
In 2019, 8 in 10 of PSB Academy graduates were employed six months after examinations**. Today, our alumni can be found working in many different fields. These include UI/UX design, Software Development, and Quality & Risk Management, just to name a few!
We want our graduates to be confident future-makers, which is why we encourage you to take charge of your career development from your first day with us. You’ll be able to sign up for industry visits, career workshops, networking events, career conferences, and mentorships arranged by PSB Academy’s Career Services team^.
We also support PSB Academy alumni looking to upskill or reskill by offering course fee rebates.
**PSB Academy Graduate Employment Survey 2019 was conducted by Tiptop Consultants. The employment rate refers to the number of graduates employed as a proportion of graduates in the labour force, and includes graduates from all full/part-time diploma and degree courses in 2018 six months after examinations.
^All physical events are temporarily on-hold due to the Covid-19 situation.
5) Find out whether the institution is recognised by various organisations
Did you know that PSB Academy has had a long-standing history in Singapore? We began in 1964 as a unit under the Economic Development Board, before becoming privatised in 2006, and have been committed to nurturing industry-ready graduates ever since.
Today, PSB Academy has been recognised as the Best Educational Institute in Singapore by APAC Insider in 2019[i]. We have also received JobsCentral Learning Training & Education Development (T.E.D.) awards for our Accounting, IT & Computer Science, Engineering, Languages, Sciences, as well as Hospitality & Tourism courses[ii].
That’s not all, however! We were recipients of the EC-Council Academia Circle of Excellence Award in the EC-Council Global Awards (2019)[iii], and the EC-Council Academia Best New Comer Award in 2018[iv]. You can rest assured that, while working hand-in-hand with you to achieve your personal and professional best, we continuously strive for self-improvement too!
