Since 2020, various responses to the Covid-19 pandemic have accelerated the adoption of digital technologies by entrepreneurs and companies, transforming the way people do business and make decisions worldwide. Digital technologies, such as smartphones and digital cameras, have also elevated marketing to a level that presents exciting opportunities for content creators and businesses.
All these changes in the world also mean that there are so many future skills that need to be taught. As every business proactively reviews its strategy and prepares to get onto the digital bandwagon, there is an urgent need for leaders who are knowledgeable in the digital arena to help the businesses in their transformations, and to spearhead cutting-edge ideas and enhance their customers’ experiences.
In particular, content creation and social media marketing skills are becoming increasingly sought after by industries in the new economy, such as media and technology, and even traditional industries, such as real estate. Whether it be to grow an online business, market a new product or draw attention to their brand in a crowded market, companies can utilise these skills to communicate and tell their stories in engaging and digestible ways.
As a future-ready institution, PSB Academy is committed to prepare our students for the new economy. Which is why in 2021, we partnered with Nas Academy, the training and development arm of social creator Nas Daily to co-develop and deliver the Social Media pathway, one of two elective pathways under the Diploma in Media and Communications programme.
Nas Academy is a global education and learning community platform for content creation, entrepreneurship and Web3. They strive to empower content creators and businesses through technology and world-class learning experiences. With courses that are built by leading YouTubers, TikTokers, entrepreneurs and artists who have mastered their skills through years of practice, they have more than 200,000 students from 150 countries who joined the platform to learn skills, such as how to make videos for social media, how to tell a story, and how to grow one’s presence online.
Taught by industry experts, students who opt for the social media elective pathway will learn industry-relevant skills and knowledge required to master content creation in this digital world. The “Storytelling with Social Media” and “Editing and Publishing for Social Media” modules will expose students to powerful storytelling techniques while mastering video editing skills and maximising audience reach. Upon successful completion of the pathway, students will receive an additional e-certificate from Nas Academy on top of the diploma certificate conferred by PSB Academy, and may further their studies with a degree from our university partners (subject to the university’s entry requirements).
Thus far, more than 100 students have signed up for the social media pathway, which signals a strong demand among those who want to understand the new media space, given the growth opportunities.
”We believe learning is a dynamic process that never ends,” said Pang Hui Min, Head of Strategic Partnerships at Nas Academy. “Your learning is constant, and you learn best by doing and getting feedback from others. This is why we emphasise the importance of finding a community that you connect best with. We also welcome alumni of PSB Academy to join our community (be it content creation, entrepreneurship or even Web3) to connect with other like-minded individuals to exchange knowledge and find ways to collaborate and create.”
