From pandemic lockdowns to conflict in Europe, the last two years have been particularly trying for logistics and supply chain professionals. The past decades of just-in-time supply chain models rely heavily on forecasting predictability and global connectivity, and have been blindsided by present-day waves of disruption. The rethink of supply chain strategies to accommodate the surge of supply and demand shocks has translated into greater agility and just-in-case buffers for many businesses. Against this volatile economic backdrop, the global Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) supports its members in continuous professional development to future-proof their careers, as well as to work in close collaboration with the public and private sectors, government agencies and academia to develop opportunities and synergy for industry transformation and growth, underpinned by strategic thrusts in digitalisation and sustainability.
In early 2019, PSB Academy and the local chapter of CILT collaborated to launch a Diploma in Global Supply Chain Management for aspiring professionals. With 400 students so far and growing, this new diploma is intentionally designed with both the professional certification expertise of CILT Singapore and vocational work experience or industry-based project so that our students will be exposed to the demands of the vocation before they graduate, and can better position themselves in the job market.
The partnership between CILT Singapore and PSB Academy marks the first time that the logistics charter has extended its professional certification to private diploma students, and is part of a broader drive by the Academy since 2017/18 to co-create greater employability value for our students with leading industry players. Many of the Academy’s diploma courses today integrate co-development and co-delivery with professional bodies, while other courses extend student membership benefits and industry networking opportunities.
“The future of business education is closely joined with the pressing needs of tomorrow’s workforces. We cannot take for granted yesterday’s strategies will continue to work amidst unprecedented uncertainties in the business environment. PSB Academy draws from a 50-year heritage in productivity upskilling while leveraging on the expertise of the sector’s best to train the next generation of supply chain professionals,” says Christopher Chiew, PSB Academy’s programme leader for Diploma in Global Supply Chain Management.
“As student members of CILT Singapore, PSB Academy students enjoy a wide range of benefits, including updates on the latest business developments and career opportunities through the monthly CILT newsletter, a repository of more than 600 white papers and publications, as well as webinars and videos that are purposefully curated for our members’ professional development. Students also enjoy access to national and international conferences and webinars to gain insights from thought leaders, stakeholders and Government agencies on the future changes, opportunities and challenges of the operating environment,” CILT Singapore Chairman, Karmjit Singh shares.
“CILT Singapore will continue its strategic thrust to develop opportunities and synergy for industry transformation and growth, underpinned by Digitalisation and Sustainability. In this respect, we hope to forge greater synergy and partnership with PSB Academy to serve the educational and professional aspirations of our people and nation,” adds Mohan Balagopal, Co-Director Education (Projects) at CILT Singapore.
