Bachelor of Biomedical Science, La Trobe University

School of Health and Life Sciences

Prior to my life science degree at La Trobe University, I was a biomedical science diploma holder. While contemplating my degree options, my brother recommended me towards PSB Academy (PSBA). I was pleased to know that my relevant diploma could get me a 12-month module exemption, hence allowing me to complete my course within a year.

Many in the research field possess higher qualifications, and as such I believe that arming myself with a degree was my ticket to stay relevant and competitive among my peers.

Currently, I’m a research associate at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University. I conduct neuroscience research, where I train mice to perform tasks while observing their neuronal activity. My education at PSB Academy boosted my confidence when doing lab experiments; this is incredibly important as being an associate, I am usually left alone to plan and conduct my own experiments. The healthy dose of curiosity instilled by my lecturers during my time at PSB Academy has helped me to ask better questions at work and thus gain better clarity.

While lectures were challenging at times, the lecturers in PSBA were all very patient. Special mention to Dr Seah, who was always nice to us and even went a step further in showing his care towards his students by appearing at the common study area before the major exams to ask if we had any last-minute questions for the exam, rendering his support.

To a certain extent, graduating from a private education may cause you to start at a slight disadvantage over local university graduates, but it is essentially how you perform at the job that will eventually distinguish you from your peers. In this regard, I believe that your education at PSBA will serve you well in making a positive impact in your field.
