Student Stories

Prior to my degree I graduated with a Perfumery and Cosmetic Science Diploma. Along the way I discovered my passion lies in biology instead of chemistry, which my diploma heavily focused on. Stumbled across a PSB Academy ad in 2015 and realised that I was able to make a switch to biomedical science.

One aspect that drew me towards PSB Academy was the possibility of completing the degree in two years. The well-planned schedule, coupled with the reasonable duration of the semester breaks, allowed for a comfortable pace of learning. While some semester had heavier workloads, it was manageable due to the meticulous organisation of class schedules.

All the modules I learnt at La Trobe University proved to be highly relevant and equipped me with valuable background knowledge. I even kept some the notes I printed over 5 years ago! More importantly, studying in a private education institution has taught me not to be complacent and to work smart and hard.

Upon graduating, I found a promising starting point in clinical and hospital laboratories, which constantly sought the expertise of laboratory technicians. For the 1.5years of my professional career, I dedicated myself to improving my skills and familiarise myself in a real lab, before seizing a golden opportunity to transition into a research lab.

Currently, I’m working at Cancer Discovery Hub as a Research Officer and Assistant Laboratory Manager, where I study various types of cancers, particularly rare cancers, utilising next-generation sequencing and downstream functional studies.

My experience at PSB Academy has been transformative, both in terms of academic growth and personal development. The school has equipped me with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in my chosen field, while the challenging yet rewarding journey has fostered a resilient work ethic. I am proud to have been a part of this institution’s vibrant academic community, and I eagerly anticipate the exciting opportunities that lie ahead in my career.
