“Have passion and faith in whatever you do.” – Chun Keat

How has the Career Services Team helped you with your career preparation and subsequently, career search?

Prior to seeking assistance from the Career Services Team, I was already certain that I wished to join the healthcare industry after graduation. I happened to chance upon the emails from the Career Services Team with regards to the various career workshops/clinic, and I decided to sign up for them. After attending the workshops/clinic, I managed to receive advice and constructive feedback on how to improve my resume and how to better respond to common interview questions. I also got a better understanding of my own personality traits. After which, I consolidated and applied all these concepts and feedback which greatly helped me during my job search.

Have you attended any career workshops (Identi3 personality assessment etc.) and how have those helped you?

Yes, I have attended a few workshops and talks last year (“Supercharge My Career” workshop, “Career Prep Series” talk, Career Clinic, “Managing Fatigue and Burnout” talk and “Grow Your Money” talk). These workshops and talks cover a range of topics, such as resume writing skills, job search/interview tips, Identi3 personality assessment, stress management and finance management. All these have helped me holistically and hence boosted my self-confidence when I was preparing myself for the transition from student to working professional.

What is your advice to current students who are preparing to take the next step in seeking out an internship or career?

You should have passion and faith for what you are currently doing and/or what you intend to do after graduation. As long as you genuinely have the passion, you will find it easier to discover what suits you better and when you try hard enough, opportunities will eventually come to you.

Do sign up and attend career workshops/clinics conducted in school whenever you can, especially while you are still an existing student with the school. If you are looking for your first-ever full-time job, it will not be easy but have faith and continue sending out your resume. While it is good to send applications for your desired job position, it is also important to keep an open mind and apply to different job positions within the industry that you wish to work in.

Finally, prepare for potential interviews well, so that you will be less nervous, more natural and are able to interact with the interviewers better, which will significantly improve your chances of being hired for the job.
