Can you tell us about yourself and your current role?

I am a highly organised and proactive Senior Customer Engineer with five years of experience in the semiconductor industry. I specialise in providing technical engineering support, including pre-sales and post-sales initiatives, which involve the installation, modification, and troubleshooting of equipment and systems.

How did your studies and the skills you acquired during your time at the university prepare you for your career path?

Serving as a Student Leader gave me invaluable experience in organising events, solving problems, and leading teams. These experiences emphasized the importance of meticulous planning, effective communication, and adaptability in managing diverse tasks and challenges. The skills I gained in event organisation, problem-solving, and leadership are crucial for success in any professional career. Mastering these competencies has prepared me to embark on my career path with confidence and a solid foundation for future growth.

As Student Leader, what motivated you and what were your biggest accomplishments from leading the club?

I was motivated by the opportunity to build a vibrant community for Malaysian students at PSB Academy through the Malaysian Student Club. Our club focused on promoting cultural exchange, academic support, and social engagement within the academy.

One of my most significant accomplishments was fostering a strong sense of teamwork among our members. I believe that while individual talent can win games, it is teamwork and collective intelligence that truly win championships. Through collaboration and mutual support, we achieved remarkable success and created a cohesive and dynamic group. Leading the Malaysian Student Club highlighted the importance of unity, communication, and shared goals. This enriching experience not only enhanced my leadership skills but also reinforced my belief in the power of teamwork to overcome challenges and achieve excellence.

How did you manage your time between studies and managing student community?

I implemented a structured approach where I set specific times in my calendar dedicated to studying and community management, ensuring each area receives my full attention and effort.

This disciplined schedule helps me stay organised and maintain a clear focus on my tasks. The time constraints serve as a motivational tool, pushing me to be more productive and efficient. By adhering to this balanced schedule, I achieve harmony between my academic commitments and my role in the student community. This approach enhances my overall performance and contribution in both areas.

Describe your experience studying in Singapore, and how has it helped you in your personal growth.

Studying in Singapore has been a transformative experience, fostering both personal and academic growth in a multicultural and vibrant environment. The diversity here has not only enhanced my independence but also sharpened my ability to interact and collaborate effectively with peers from diverse backgrounds and nationalities.

Singapore’s efficient public transportation system and strong emphasis on safety have provided me with a secure and conducive environment to thrive as an international student. Overall, my time in Singapore has been immensely rewarding. I’ve acquired valuable life skills, made unforgettable memories, and immersed myself in a dynamic and welcoming community that continually inspires and supports personal development.

What do you miss the most about your time at PSB Academy?

One of the most memorable experiences during my time at PSB Academy was the steamboat event organised by the Malaysian Student Club to celebrate Chinese New Year. This event was particularly memorable as it revived a long-standing tradition, marking the first steamboat gathering held at our school in many years.

The event brought together Malaysian students from diverse backgrounds, creating a vibrant sense of community and cultural celebration at PSB Academy. It provided a platform for students to connect, share traditions, and enjoy a festive atmosphere together. Beyond the delicious food, the event showcased the talents of Malaysian students through lively performances of dance and song. These performances not only entertained but also highlighted the rich cultural diversity and artistic talents within our student body.

What were the challenges you faced when you were seeking employment after graduation? How do you overcome them?

Upon graduation, I was fortunate to secure employment relatively quickly. However, I understand the challenges many graduates face during the job search process. It’s crucial to maintain patience and confidence that the right opportunity will emerge in due time. Persistence and a positive mindset are key during this period of uncertainty.

I recommend continuously refining your skills through professional development opportunities and remaining proactive in networking. Tailor your job applications to closely align with your career aspirations and strengths. Remember, the job search journey is a learning process. Embrace each experience—whether it’s a networking event, interview, or rejection—as an opportunity to grow and improve.

Stay resilient and focused on your long-term career goals, knowing that persistence and preparation will lead you to the right path.

Is there any other experience you would like to share with current students during your time at PSB Academy?

While academic pursuits are crucial, I highly encourage current students to also allocate time for participation in school activities and events. Engaging in these extracurricular pursuits enriches your educational journey, promotes personal development, and offers opportunities to cultivate crucial life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and time management.

Balancing academics with school activities allows you to create a well-rounded and fulfilling school experience that supports both your academic and personal growth. It’s about finding a harmony that enhances your overall learning and prepares you effectively for your future career endeavours.

What advice would you give to current students pursuing a similar course or career path?

Don’t limit yourself. It’s easy to underestimate your potential based on perceived limitations. Believe in your abilities and keep pushing your boundaries. What you believe, you can achieve.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received and has been with you ever since?

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Every mistake is a chance to learn and improve. Embrace failures as stepping stones toward success.
