Foundation Diploma in Life Sciences, PSB Academy

School of Health and Life Sciences

In secondary school, I had a tough time juggling between my studies and CCA. I would get too distracted by it that I tend to neglect my schoolwork and ultimately, I did not fare too well for my O-Level. I went on to polytechnic but decided to drop out as the course was not right for me.

I was quite lost and confused as to what I should do next. Then I remembered that the school career counsellor had suggested a few pathways such as private education. Out of all the private institutions I searched about, PSB Academy was the most prominent school that offers the Life Sciences course. I realised that I was eligible for the Foundation Diploma in Life Sciences and could even progress on to a degree after graduating from it.

PSB Academy has given me the opportunity to venture my interest in Life Sciences and my learning experience here has been wonderful. As the teacher to student ratio is relatively smaller, learning in the classroom is easier for me. The teachers are very friendly and would encourage us to ask them questions if we had any. They are also very engaging which makes the classes more fun and interactive. As my interest lies in what I’m studying, I feel more motivated to study harder and push myself out of my comfort zone.

Through my course, I’ve learnt how a human body and its organ systems work. I’ve also picked up practical skills from the lab lessons, where I get to work on interesting experiments such as those related to medications. My dream is to be part of a biomedical research team that will make scientific breakthroughs and save millions of lives. Thus, the practical skills I’ve learnt will come in handy.

My advice to fellow O-Level graduates: there are a lot of options you can choose from and different paths to reach your end goal. If you’re like me and you did not get the result you expected, do not worry as it is not the end. You can seek guidance from a career counsellor or programme consultant who will recommend options based on your interests. As long as you don’t give up, it is never the end.
