When you were an undergraduate student, what were your plans upon graduation?
During my last semester as an undergraduate, I started to apply for jobs in Singapore via email. At that time, the Covid-19 situation worsened so that made job applications much more challenging.
After the end of my finals, I went back to my home country in Myanmar and resumed my job search through various career portals. I also expanded my search to jobs in Thailand, Vietnam, Canada, South Korea, and of course, in Myanmar too.
By that time, Covid-19 was already at its peak, so it was also equally challenging to secure a job in Myanmar. Luckily, with resilience and good academic qualifications attained in Singapore through PSB Academy, I eventually got a job interview by the end of June and was successfully hired by July.
How has PSB Academy’s Career Services and Engagement Team helped you get ready for corporate world?
Support from the Career Services team has played a massive role in my career preparation. After being encouraged by PSB Academy’s career coaches, I attended most of their workshops and trainings and as a result, I learnt many best practices and pitfalls to avoid in my job applications.
When I started to apply for jobs both in Singapore and Myanmar, I applied most of the knowledge gained from those workshops and trainings and I would credit part of my job search success to these experiences.
How have you applied what we taught you in our career preparatory trainings to your current job?
To share an example, I attended the Identi3 training on matching personality types to the right job function. From that training, I gained more clarity on which career path I am likely to do well in.
I also received a lot of knowledge from attending career workshops which taught me how to look my best, articulate my strengths and tackle commonly asked questions during a job interview. I also learnt how to improve my resume.
What advice do you have for current students as they decide what they want their next steps to be in their internships or careers?
Start attending the workshops and trainings organised by PSB Academy’s Career Services team as you will gain a headstart in your career readiness. Don’t do it until it’s too late!
