How has your education journey in Coventry University prepared you to enter the industry
What I’m doing right now (I’m currently working in an SME as the cybersecurity project manager), is very much relevant to what I have studied in my Uni.
The reason I wanted to enter this area is because of my passion towards cybersecurity. Since I started working in the tech industry, there were lots of things I learnt and felt more confident in handling because of what I was taught in Coventry University. I was also presented with various opportunities to work e.g
- Real life incident response on cyber attacks
- Policy creation, product/SD life cycle of a cyber security product and so on
- In-house cybersecurity infrastructure enhancement
- Gaining the exposure at tech forums – speaking at conferences and events
My motto is to make the internet a safer place for everyone. Although that might sound very broad, I’m moving towards the right direction by taking small steps everyday.
How have the people that are with you today supported you in your university journey.
My parents were my key support system when I made the decision to continue my studies after achieving a diploma.
I also would like to give a shout out to my project group mates during my course of study who have worked closely with me.
What is the one positive incident that has impacted you during your journey with Coventry University
I would say the last 3 months in my Uni was a game changer, it provided me with exposure to the real world when I did my final year project A*Star.
What do you plan to do now, or have already done with your degree?
Now that I have completed a chapter of my life, my main focus is to become an SME in the cybersecurity industry. In tech, the new innovations are released very often and once you enter the workforce it’s important to update the relevant key skills in a timely manner.
Tried to narrow down my focus area on learning and being in an SME in the field during my early stage in career.
Three things I’m focusing right now are
- Offensive security
- Cybersecurity leadership/management
- Keeping a proactive/open mindset.
Can you describe your studying experience in one word or two with Coventry University?
Fascinating, new normal
