Even though I took a marketing diploma at Sunway College, I figured out that I preferred calculation and investment, so I decided to pursue an accounting and finance degree. While it is very hard to travel to the UK to study amid a pandemic, PSB Academy works with international universities from different countries, including the UK, to offer various degrees. In addition, because I had a diploma qualification, I was granted module exemptions, which allowed me to enter Year 2 of the programme.

Singapore has a high reputation in terms of the education system. Also, the language barrier is low because the majority of the people are bilingual and can converse in English and either Mandarin/Malay/Tamil. On top of that, commuting in Singapore is easy as the transportation system like buses and MRT are not complicated.

I’ve picked up valuable practical skills and knowledge even though I only attended two terms. The principles of financial investment module taught us the fundamentals of finance, capital markets, etc. Other modules like Principles of Taxation and Financial Reporting and Analysis will definitely help me in my future career. It has introduced me to the taxation system in Singapore and understanding how to read and analyse financial statements by companies.

I liked how the lecturers would give us a lot of practice questions with varying difficulties. This allows us to practice instead of only listening to the lecturer speak. They are also very patient in guiding us step by step. Notably, Mr Irwin, the principles of financial investment lecturer, would often share his experiences in the industry with us, making the lessons very interesting. He has also inspired me to pursue a career within the investment sector.

Despite the pandemic period, my online learning experience has been great. All the lectures are recorded, and it is very convenient for me to playback the recording when doing revision. The lecturers are very patient in explaining to us whenever we face problems about the lessons and will always answer our questions outside of tutorial/lecturer hours.
