Students From PSB Academy’s Coventry University Enters Singapore Book of Records for Largest Rube Goldberg Machine

4 September 2021 — Students from PSB Academy’s Coventry University have successfully entered the Singapore Book of Records for executing the largest Rube Goldberg machine with 102 steps.

A Rube Goldberg machine is an overly complex contraption which uses a chain-reaction concept, intentionally designed with humour and a backing narrative, to accomplish a simple task.

“We are proud to break the record and enter the Singapore Book of Records. It was no easy feat as the previous record has been held for seven years, but the students have managed to accomplish this impressive feat through teamwork, determination and applying their theoretical knowledge into practice. Through this exercise, we aim to encourage our students to develop their critical thinking skills and constantly be curious to use their engineering skills to solve real-world challenges,” said Mr Syafiq Shahul, Assistant Lecturer at PSB Academy’s School of Engineering and Technology.

The record was previously held by members of the Singapore Academy of Young Engineers & Scientists (SAYES) who set the record in December 2014 with 74 steps.
